Announcement

The Vimy Foundation is delighted to announce that Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, has granted viceregal patronage upon our organization.

October 24th 2023 – Montreal, Qc – The Vimy Foundation

This prestigious recognition underscores Her Excellency's deep commitment to commemoration, education, and reconciliation in Canada. It represents support and endorsement from the Governor General and solidifies our dedication to our mission.

Receiving viceregal patronage strengthens our ability to continue this vital mission. The support from the Governor General encourages us to expand our efforts and reach even greater heights. It underscores the importance of preserving our history to build a brighter future for all Canadians, informed by the past.

Founded in 2006, the Vimy Foundation is dedicated to preserving and promoting Canada's First World War legacy, with a particular focus on the iconic Battle of Vimy Ridge. Our work extends beyond the battlefield to inspire and engage Canadians, particularly youth, in the exploration of our country's history during the First World War, and its enduring impact on our nation's identity.

The Vimy Foundation expresses its deepest gratitude to Her Excellency Mary Simon for her support and commitment to our cause. We look forward to working closely with her office and our community of supporters as we continue to commemorate and educate, ensuring that the legacy of Vimy Ridge and our shared histories  remains vibrant and relevant for generations to come.

Dogs have been used in war for centuries worldwide. Their duties have ranged from pulling carts, sentries, scouts, messengers, as mascots, rat catchers in the trenches, search and rescue, bomb detectors and first aid dogs. Countless stories of incredible heroic acts performed by these animals have been told throughout the First World War and beyond. Dogs continue to be put to work in military service to this day as their role expands to include service animals for veterans. The Vimy Foundation partnered with Dog Hair INCluded (Montreal) to design these quality and durable bandanas featuring our Vimy Plaid. Honor those four-legged friends who also helped shape our history with this rugged and stylish pet bandana.
